About the Role
As a Frontend Engineer at Whippy, you will:
- Craft intuitive interfaces that allow our users to interact with powerful communication paradigms.
- Write Engineering Requirement Documents to take something from idea, through defined tasks, to implementation, roll out, and evaluation of its success.
- Build unit and end-to-end test suites that help us effectively maintain product performance and reliability, and integrate product analytics to measure the success of the features you launch.
Some frontend engineers have built:
- Our React Native mobile app from the ground up on their own.
- A SQL-style data filtering GUI that interfaces with our flexible backend APIs.
- A spreadsheet-style data grid for real-time marketing analytics.
- A design system built with Radix UI and Stitches.
About you
- A strong understanding of frontend architecture to build interactivity-rich systems for fetching, mutating, and rendering data effectively.
- A desire to be a part of the entire project development process. From research gathering and planning, to implementation and monitoring.
- Great written and verbal communication skills for expressing ideas, designs, and potential solutions in a mostly-asynchronous manner.
What we offer?
- Compensation is $60K-$80K/year based on experience
- Opportunity to take on significant responsibility and ownership in a highly disruptive product.
- Working hands-on with serial entrepreneurs who have created $100M+ valued companies.
What to know?
To provide transparency, here are some important points to note about the position:
- We are a startup, and our team dynamics differ from those of companies of different sizes and stages. Our team is distributed across the globe, and this distributed nature will continue to grow. This means that there is always something happening, so effective time management in a remote and asynchronous engineering environment is essential.
- While English is the second language for many engineers on the team, fluency in written English is a requirement. While fluency in spoken English is also a plus, if you are not confident in your written English ability, please do not apply.
- We do not ask applicants to complete take-home assignments or participate in “leetcode” style interviews. However, we do require a two-week full-time or four-week part-time fully paid “work trial” of “mutual assessment.” More details about this mutual assessment period are outlined below. If you are unable to commit to this, please do not apply.
- We hire globally regardless of timezone, but we have team meetings on Mondays and Fridays at 2:30 pm GMT. If you are unable to be online during these hours, please do not apply.
- Pay is determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: interviews and an assessment of several factors that are unique to each candidate, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, and abilities of the candidate.
What’s the process?
Here's the entire process if selected after a CV screen:
- Video call to talk about your experience and the role.
- 2-week full-time paid work trial.
- Meet the team and review work.
- Full Time Position Offer extended.
How does the paid assessment period work?
Before the trial, we’ll discuss some options for a two-week project. We’ll agree on the scope of the project before you start.
You’ll work independently, however, you’ll have access to the team to ask questions and get support on anything you might need to complete the task efficiently.
At the end of the trial, if we both enjoyed working together, we’ll offer you a full-time position.
We’re aware that there are pros and cons to this process, but we believe this is the best possible way for both parties to be excited about working together. If you are asking questions like “I’m applying for multiple jobs what happens if I get one can we speed up the trial?” Then you’re probably not going to be the right fit and you should take another role.
