This role involves overseeing the design, development, and execution of biomass boiler heating projects, specifically under the SEAI’s Support Scheme for Renewable Heat (SSRH). The position requires a blend of technical design expertise, project management skills, and a strong understanding of compliance to help businesses transition to renewable energy solutions. The engineer will manage the internal SSRH team, drive project progress, and collaborate with clients to ensure projects meet goals, timelines, and budget constraints, while adhering to SEAI and SSRH guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Project Assessment, Design, and Development
System Design:
- Develop detailed designs for biomass boiler heating systems, including schematics, layouts, and technical specifications, which will be compiled into a comprehensive technical submittal.
- Optimise designs for reliability and cost-effectiveness to meet the client’s needs.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations.
- Develop project costings based on the overall scope of the project to support the sales team.
- Provide regular updates to the internal costing tool to keep it in line with current costs.
Technology Integration:
- Integrate auxiliary systems such as feedstock handling, heat exchangers, heat meters, and have a good understanding of BMS (Building Management Systems).
- Select appropriately sized equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, and pipework.
Software Tools:
- Utilise CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and simulation tools for system designs.
- Demonstrate strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite and project management tools.
Heating System Assembly:
- Provide technical supervision of the assembly of heating systems from component equipment, either in the workshop or on-site.
Project Management
Planning & Coordination:
- Develop and manage project timelines, milestones, and budgets.
- Collaborate with procurement and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
On-Site Supervision:
- Oversee the installation and commissioning of biomass boiler heating systems.
- Troubleshoot technical issues during the implementation phase.
Documentation:
- Prepare and manage all Health and Safety documentation for project initiation and adherence throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare project documentation, including design reports, technical manuals, O&M manuals, and test records.
Client Engagement:
- Liaise with clients to understand project requirements and provide technical guidance, offering weekly updates during the project lifecycle.
- Present design proposals and ensure alignment with client expectations.
Equipment Purchasing:
- Work with suppliers to source components and materials, ensuring quality and cost control.
Compliance and Regulations
Regulatory Adherence:
- Ensure designs meet local authority requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field.
- Project Management qualification desirable.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD/Revit and simulation tools.
