The Red Hat Always Ready RHEL team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us. In this role, you will be part of a globally distributed team of software and quality engineers. The team builds important community facing operating systems that are critical to our product portfolio: ELN and CentOS Stream, as well as works in the overall CentOS and RHEL ecosystem. They work together in an open, transparent, DevOps way to provide services for these communities. You'll work in an open and transparent way, balancing input from external and internal stakeholders to produce the best possible results and meet company objectives. You will also work with community volunteers to supplement the project's work. To succeed in this role, you should have a positive but realistic outlook, be resilient when times are tough, enjoy collaboration, and believe in work/life balance for yourself and your team.
What you will do
- Participate in the full development lifecycle, from design to release, including RPM packaging for Centos Stream and RHEL systems
- Communicate and collaborate with developers and teams inside and outside Red Hat including the CentOS Stream and Fedora communities
- Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues, working closely with all stakeholders
What you will bring
- Experience with Linux administration with a solid understanding of the Linux operating system, RPM Packaging and open source operating systems
- Proficiency in Python programming language
- Expertise in using Git for version control
- Proactive, collaborative team player with effective problem-solving skills
- Competence in troubleshooting and debugging complex system issues
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools like Ansible and Jenkins
- Familiarity with software testing, including unit and integration tests
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal
