3 Months, Specific Purpose, Whole-time Post
Position Summary
The position is funded to develop an Advanced Shelter Concept through the Research Ireland Future Innovator Prize Programme. The challenge is to replace the commercial canvas-truss-based shelter with a self-supportive large-scale modular shelter for the Irish Defences Forces. A rapid and simple assembly/disassembly lightweight shelter that is easily portable is required but is not available in the market and in the prior art, and the design should consider modularity, technology integration, sustainability and adverse weather conditions.
The candidate will be fully involved in challenge validation, solution concept development, impact pathway, and proactive engagement with Irish Defence Forces, as well as supporting the draft of the research report to the funding body. The candidate is expected to investigate the origami folding pattern, material selection and the bonding methods, as well as looking after the UCC Procurement for purchasing consumable materials. The post duration is 3 months initially, but with a possibility to extend for another 9 months.
