Job Purpose The Infrastructure office within EirGrid comprises highly skilled professionals with backgrounds in engineering and business/commerce. The Infrastructure Office is responsible for leading the development and delivery of the power system and interconnection investment programmes, in collaboration with partners, customers & communities.
The Connection Projects team is responsible for the delivery of electricity generation, demand, and interconnection customer connections to the transmission system. This includes the delivery of transmission works for power generation and demand customer connections at distribution voltage levels.
The Programme Manager will support the Head of Connection Projects in leading a team of engineers to deliver on a range of complex, large scale technical and commercial projects. The role holder will also be responsible for leading strategic, change related projects – for example development of credible power system delivery programmes out to 2030, envisioning the future of renewables in Ireland, including the facilitation of offshore windfarms.
The role holder will lead a portfolio of projects, ensuring that appropriate project controls are in place within the team having regard to budgets, schedule, quality, risk and activity monitoring
The role holder will be involved in working collaboratively across the organisation and leading broader engagement with our stakeholders as we strive to transform the power system for future generations. They will demonstrate an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative work environment and will have the following responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities
- Lead significant infrastructure delivery programmes aligned with the business strategy
- Manage the programme delivery of a broad range of projects in support of the 2030 Climate Action Plan.
- Lead the development of the overall approach for the programme, its major time frames and the definition of its major deliverables to address and meet the desired goals and outcomes
- Within large projects, define and maintain realistic project plans, monitor progress against agreed quality and performance criteria and ensure programmes of work are correctly allocated and resourced
- Present programme/project plans, technical roadmaps, risks and recommendations to senior business leaders
- Work with project managers to provide support and guidance for the individual projects within a programme of work
- Establish and ensure appropriate governance functions for the programme in accordance with EirGrid policies and practices
- Partner with the executive sponsor to communicate program goals, objectives and potential outcomes and to realise business benefits.
- Develop and control the programme budget, and manages expenditure within agreed spending plans
- Manage the programme and project risks in a co-ordinated way ensuring that the significant risks are managed and communicated effectively to senior business leaders
- Balance the availability of the required skills and competencies across project teams within the programme
- Monitor and coordinate dependencies across the projects in the programme and resolving conflicting demands.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential
- University degree in engineering or other equivalent degree, typically with 10+ years relevant experience
- Excellent analytical, strategic planning and execution skills
- Extensive experience in structuring and executing complex projects as a project manager
- Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders to deliver on project goals. Ability to successfully guide, persuade and influence others through developed skills of communication and diplomacy
- Change oriented, resilient, innovative and comfortable with ambiguity
- Experience applying formal project management methodologies and disciplines for a programme or multiple projects
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to develop and communicate the programme objectives, inspire and motivate staff, and maintain alignment with the business strategy
- A high degree of political sensitivity, astuteness and the ability to use the informal power structure of the organization to achieve programme success and overcome obstacles
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain and “sell” the programme goals and objectives to the business, as well as technical leadership
- Ability to develop programmes and deliver them with financial and resource constraints and to ability to manage risk across the programme and develop the necessary mitigations.
Desirable
- Certified Programme Manager with proven Programme Management experience
- Knowledge of energy sector and infrastructure delivery
- Successful experience in managing transformational change in a large or complex organisation.
