Position Description
Asset Development is tasked with identifying and developing new investment opportunities on behalf of ESB’s Generation & Trading business unit. Development activities comprise identifying and developing opportunities to enhance and expand the generation portfolio to achieve the ESB growth targets – bringing the projects from Concept Stage through to Financial Investment Decision.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of assets in our Flexible Generation and Storage Team working closely with team members across the various business units in ESB eg. Engineering Design, Legal, Finance and Procurement. The successful candidates will be highly motivated, innovative, commercially driven and have a track record of successfully developing projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the assessment and development of new business opportunities on both greenfield and brownfield, the application of new technologies and assess acquisition opportunities.
- Oversee the planning permission process for new sites
- Ensure commercial rigour is brought to each project along with a focus on land and local stakeholder engagements
- Promote the message that ‘ESB Do Things Right’, with an outstanding history of developing projects within the community.
- Assess new project Land opportunities as they arise and optimise the value to ESB.
- Promote and foster a strong team culture and open and transparent communication within the project team and throughout Asset Development.
- Build and manage stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally, including developing a community engagement strategy, interfacing with utility system operators and supporting the acquisition of necessary permits, authorisations, planning and connection agreements.
- Act as the project representative for development projects as required.
- Ensure effective project delivery in line with ESB’s internal project management methodologies, achieving a consistent high standard of output from the project team which meets all technical, commercial, legal procurement and programme requirements.
- Ensure project tracking datasets are kept up to date for your respective area.
- Ensuring that all project risks are continually assessed, reported and managed in line with ESB’s governance systems.
- Assist in the development of the business case for assigned projects.
- Identify Lessons Learned that can be improved for future development projects.
- Keep up to date on evolving energy and market policies to provide informed advice on the implications of policy trajectory with regards to the dispatchable energy industry
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
• Knowledge and experience in developing Energy Projects.
- Knowledge and experience of the Planning and Environmental Consenting processes.
- Experience of stakeholder engagement and management.
- Experience of working from own initiative, taking ownership of work / projects and motivating team members to deliver team objectives or projects.
- Analytical skills to assess projects and the ability to summarise the key parameters of a project.
- At least 7 years postgraduate experience.
Desirable
• Experience in negotiating with Landowners on Leases, Wayleaves and Easements.
- Understanding of the Power Generation industry and market conditions
- Understanding of the Electrical and Legal requirements associated with grid connections.
Qualifications
Essential
• A primary Engineering degree or equivalent.
Desirable
• Project management qualification and/or other business management qualifications that may compliment the essential/desirable knowledge, skills and experience listed above.
Location
This position will be based in ESB Head Office, Lr. Fitzwilliam Rd, Dublin 2.

Salary
€69,500 - €81,800
