In RTÉ Technology we are responsible for leading and driving the implementation of the technology strategy, and for stimulating change and new ways of working across the organization, empowering and enabling RTÉ to be an effective and efficient digital content and channels business.
We are seeking a Full-Stack Software Developer to join our development team, building some of the most high-profile online products in Ireland; including RTÉ.ie, RTÉ Player, and the RTÉ News app.
Reporting to the Systems & Development Manager, you will take on a critical role within the development team, ensuring RTÉ’s content is published and available – on-time, every time – across a suite of online products and services that hundreds of thousands of people use every day.
Main Responsibilities:
- Creating web layouts and user interfaces from design concepts by using best HTML/CSS/Javascript practices across multiple platforms
- Development and maintenance of large-scale web applications using Python/Django and PHP/Wordpress frameworks
- Estimating development effort for assigned tasks and the development backlog
- Routine daily maintenance of existing sites and application
- Software testing, debugging, and refactoring
- Collaborating daily with UX designers, content-creators, project-managers, testers and the wider development team
Working with a wide range of colleagues in both technical and non-technical roles, you will be a clear, calm and consistent communicator, ready and comfortable to be the person who solves problems – sometimes in situations where there is high pressure, and little time.
Requirements:
- Substantial experience as a Full-Stack Software Developer
- Proficient in Python/Django and in a range of other web technologies, particularly HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, MySQL, and Solr
- Experience developing and supporting large scale public-facing web applications
- Experience of working in a fast-paced, fluid environment while ensuring the uptime and availability of services
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving/analytical skills
- Ability to quickly pick up new technologies and support a broad range of systems

This appointment is being offered on a full-time ongoing contract. The salary scale is from €49,542 to € 83,134 gross per annum and the candidate will be appointed at a level commensurate with their skills and experience.
