Head of Finance – Leading Palliative Care Provider

Our client, a well-established and respected provider of specialist care in the West of Ireland, is seeking a Head of Finance to lead their Finance and Procurement Department. About the Role
As the Head of Finance, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy and governance of the organisation. Reporting directly to the CEO and working as a key member of the Senior Management Team, you will ensure financial sustainability, compliance with best practices, and efficient resource utilisation. You will lead a dedicated finance and procurement team, driving improvements and delivering results in line with strategic goals.
Location
This role can be based in Galway City or Castlebar.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Oversee financial planning, reporting, and governance, including monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and year-end accounts.
✅ Ensure compliance with HSE arrangements, tax regulations, and sector governance standards.
✅ Manage and develop the Finance and Procurement team, currently comprising 4 FTEs.
✅ Implement best practices in procurement processes and policies, promoting awareness and compliance across the organisation.
✅ Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, senior managers, and governance committees, to support financial excellence.
✅ Contribute to the development and execution of the organisation's strategic and operational goals.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need:
✔ Qualifications: Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with membership in a recognised professional body.
✔ Experience: 5-7+ years of post-qualification experience, including team leadership, financial reporting, and compliance.
✔ Skills: Advanced proficiency in financial systems, Excel, and a strong understanding of procurement processes.
✔ Attributes: A proactive, strategic mindset with excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organisational skills. Empathy and emotional intelligence are essential, as this role supports a mission-driven organisation dedicated to making a meaningful impact on people's lives.
Desirable Experience
- Leadership experience in the health, education, or public sectors.
- Familiarity with public procurement guidelines and Board-level reporting.
